Hunmanby railway station

Hunmanbystation.jpg

Hunmanby railway, is served by Northern trains on the Yorkshire Wolds Coast line, trains run north to Scarborough calling at Filey and Seamer, to the South, trains run to Hull, via Bempton, Bridlington, Driffield and Beverley. Most trains continue to and from  Doncaster, a couple even run direct to and from Meadowhall and Sheffield. The local trains have toilets on board but there is no catering service on the train. However many local stations have station buffets including, Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington and Driffield.

Hunmanby railway station has seen it's environment improved over the last 3 years, through the efforts of the local 'Hunmanby in Bloom' group and the owners of the old station house, where good value self catering accomodation has been provided in the old waiting rooms.

Though Hunmanby railway station is unstaffed there are ways of purchasing cheaper train tickets by booking in advance either over the internet, through a rail appointed travel agent, or at a staffed station the nearerst to Hunmanby being Scarborough. While booking in advance does commit you to travelling on a certain train, on a certain date, it does include reserved seats on the trains where seat reservations are possible.

While Northern Rail (who operate the local train service) do not generally offer cheaper tickets for advance booking most long distance train operators do, many also offer highly discounted through tickets to and from Hunmanby.

WHY FLY WHEN YOU CAN ENJOY THE SCENERY FROM A TRAIN WINDOW?
If you like travelling by train and boat what about a 'Coast to Coast, 5 Countries Scenic Circular Rail and Boat Tour?' (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, The Irish Repulic and Wales) The railway companies and ferry operators offer a great ticket to any station in the Republic and Northern Ireland. Locally, a great place to purchase it is Scarborough Railway Station Travel Centre (very helpful staff) Even from a rural branch line such as the Scarborough-Hull line its amazing what journeys are possible. Belfast is a great destination, with the amazing Antrim coast, and it is possible to make the journey during the day, from local stations like Hunmanby. Why not look at travelling one way via Manchester, North Wales and Holyhead, the other via Stranraer, Ayr, Carlisle and Newcastle.
